Fluid Dynamics Visualization

Overview

This project visualizes a 3D vector data set provided by Drs. Jiacai Lu and Gretar Tryggvason from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute. The data set is a snapshot in time of a high speed fluid flow created by a computational fluid dynamics simulator.

Users can view the data in several different representations sliced along the X, Y or Z axes: points, meshes, interpolations and vector fields. In addition to viewing the static data, users can create particle simulations within the flow field to see their behavior in real time.

Notable Features:

• Multi-threading for computation intensive data processing in app background.
• Trilinear interpolations for accurate simulation from limited data sets.
• Approximately 300,000 data points manipulated in real time at 100+ fps.
